Senior Kathryn Grant ended her University of Utah diving career on March 21, competing in the platform event at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships held at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
Grant’s participation marks the conclusion of a notable collegiate journey. She was one of only 16 women nationwide to qualify and compete in all three events at this year’s NCAA Championships. Over her four seasons with Utah, she reached the national championships each year, demonstrating consistent performance and dedication.
In her final meet, Grant placed 35th on platform with a total score of 215.25. She achieved three dives scoring above 49 points, including a high mark of 60.80 on her last collegiate dive—a Back 2 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Pike. Earlier in the championships, she finished 32nd on the one-meter board and 45th on the three-meter board.
Head diving coach Richard Marschner praised Grant’s contributions to the program, saying, “Truthfully, I can’t adequately explain how much Kathryn means to me and this program. She’s a once-in-a-career person and having the opportunity to be her coach has been one of the great joys of my career.” Marschner added, “I hesitate to try to put into words her impact on the team and program because it wouldn’t be sufficient. If you were to give me a pick of any person all time with whom to build a program around, she’d be the pick without question.” He concluded by thanking Grant for her leadership and authenticity: “Thank you Kathryn, for your leadership, your work, your performance and for always being authentically you.”
Looking ahead, Elias Petersen, Evan VanBrocklin, and Nick Chirafisi are set to represent Utah at next week’s NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday, March 25.
The broader impact of Grant’s career is reflected in both her athletic achievements and influence within the team. As Utah prepares for upcoming competitions, her legacy is expected to inspire future athletes.
