Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Morgan Griffith have announced a hearing focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the U.S. healthcare system. The hearing, titled “Examining Opportunities to Advance American Health Care through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies,” is set for September 3, 2025, at 10:15 AM ET in the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be open to both the public and press and will also be livestreamed online.

Chairmen Guthrie and Griffith said, “The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has led the charge in exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can be leveraged across industries.” They highlighted AI’s potential to enhance care delivery, strengthen provider-patient relationships, reduce administrative burdens for clinicians, and empower patients.

TJ Parker, founder of General Medicine and partner at Matrix Venture Capital, is scheduled to testify. Parker previously founded PillPack, which was acquired by Amazon in 2018. He will discuss AI’s transformative role in improving healthcare customer experiences in the U.S.

Parker emphasized that many AI startups are focusing on administrative tasks like prior authorization and AI scribes. However, General Medicine uses AI to enhance customer experience directly by making healthcare as easy to navigate as e-commerce. Their model offers a one-stop-shop for telemedicine, prescriptions, imaging, labs, and specialist care with transparent pricing.

AI innovations at General Medicine include parsing complex insurance documents into structured data to display upfront costs for services and generating personalized health plans post-visit. Parker envisions a future where patients can request AI-generated health insights and book appointments through conversational AI.

He acknowledged lawmakers’ efforts in enabling price transparency and data interoperability essential for AI-driven healthcare innovation. Parker concluded that AI should not only serve as an administrative tool but also enhance customer experience by making healthcare more transparent and patient-centered.
