Doug Fiefia, a commentator on public policy and technology, posted a series of tweets between December 11 and December 12, 2025, discussing the balance between child safety, state authority, and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), as well as congratulating a local football coach.

On December 11, Fiefia emphasized the compatibility of protecting families with technological progress: “Exactly! Protecting kids and families AND leading in AI aren’t mutually exclusive. States must safeguard our values while America stays ahead in innovation.”

The following day, he critiqued recent federal actions regarding AI regulation: “They tried it in the ONBB, They tried it in the NDAA, & now it’s in an EO claiming States’ authority thwarts innovation. Even with carveouts for child safety, procurement, & infrastructure, this overreach undermines States ability to protect people and set commonsense AI rules”. In this post from December 12, Fiefia referenced legislative efforts such as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and executive orders (EO) that he argues may limit states’ capacity to implement their own AI safeguards.

Later on December 12, Fiefia turned his attention to sports by congratulating a local coach: “Congrats Coach Whit on a successful career! Excited to see the next generation of Utah football.”

Discussions around AI governance have grown as states seek greater input into regulations impacting technology development. The balance between federal oversight and state autonomy remains contested amid ongoing debates about privacy, safety standards for children online, and competitive positioning in global innovation.
