Utah rookie outfielder Danika Wilson was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second time in 2026, according to an announcement made on Mar. 24. Wilson shared this week’s honor with Arizona’s Kez Lucas.
The recognition highlights Wilson’s strong performance last week, during which she reached base safely multiple times in all three games played by Utah. She scored four runs and drove in three more over those contests.
Wilson singled, drove in a run, and scored once on Friday. On Saturday, she contributed another single and scored Utah’s first run during a narrow 2-1 victory. Her efforts continued on Sunday with two additional hits—including her sixth home run of the season—and two more runs scored. Over the week, Wilson went four-for-nine at the plate and posted a .778 slugging percentage. She has now reached base safely in sixteen consecutive games.
This marks the third time a Utah player has received Freshman of the Week honors from the conference this year; Mia Gomez previously earned the award on Feb. 17. Additionally, Wilson is now the first Ute since Abby Dayton in 2023 to win two freshman awards within one year.
