Danika Wilson, an outfielder for the University of Utah softball team, has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week. This marks the second time in three weeks that a Utah player has received this recognition. In addition to the conference honor, Wilson was also selected as Softball America’s Freshman Star of the Week.

Wilson delivered a strong performance over six games at the Beehive Classic, recording hits in each contest and finishing with a 10-for-17 batting line. She posted a 1.294 slugging percentage, hit four home runs, collected 12 RBIs, and scored seven runs. Her week included going 2-for-3 against Southern Utah and hitting her first collegiate home run against Weber State. Against Utah State on Saturday, she homered again and drove in four runs. On Sunday, she hit two more home runs and added another four RBIs.

This is Utah’s second Big 12 Freshman of the Week award for the season; Mia Gomez earned the distinction earlier on February 17.

Season tickets for Utah’s 2026 softball campaign are available for purchase through their official ticketing website at www.utahtickets.com/softball/.

“Wilson had a red-hot week at the plate, going for 10-for-17 with hits in all six of Utah’s games and crafting a 1.294 slugging percentage. The California native blasted four home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored seven times to help the Utes go 6-0 at the Beehive Classic.” according to the university’s announcement.
