Cheryl K. Acton, a member of the Utah House of Representatives, shared her views on government policy and healthcare reform in a series of posts on December 4, 2025.
In one post, Acton expressed her preference for conservative approaches to addressing state and national issues. She wrote, “When it comes to the problems we face as a state and nation, many solutions are proposed and evaluated, but in most situations I believe the conservative solution is best: limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and traditional values.” (December 4, 2025).
Addressing healthcare policy later that day, Acton commented on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), stating “Coverage is not care.” Some good things came about due to ACA, but it’s been disastrous financially. It’s unsustainable and needs a major overhaul.” (December 4, 2025).
In another post from the same date, Acton responded positively to an observation she encountered online by writing “What a great observation!” (December 4, 2025).
Acton’s remarks reflect ongoing debates within Utah and across the United States regarding the role of government in public life and health policy. The ACA has faced criticism over its financial sustainability since its implementation in 2010. Conservative policymakers like Acton often advocate for reduced government intervention in favor of market-based solutions.
