BYU defeats Utah women’s basketball in Big 12 Tournament

Utah’s women’s basketball team was eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament after a 70-52 loss to BYU in Kansas City, Missouri. The Utes end their season with a 19-12 record.

Senior Lani White led Utah with 20 points, shooting 6-of-15 from the field. Maty Wilke contributed eight points and Chyra Evans added six. Evans also led the team in rebounds with eight, while LA Sneed had five assists.

The game began with White scoring first for Utah, but BYU responded with a 7-0 run. After trailing at the end of the first quarter, Utah surged ahead in the second quarter on a 17-2 run fueled by nine points from White. This gave Utah a 36-27 lead at halftime.

After halftime, BYU took control by ending the third quarter on a 15-0 run and forcing seven turnovers from Utah. The Utes were held to just seven points in that period and trailed 51-43 going into the fourth quarter. BYU maintained its momentum throughout the final quarter to secure its third win over Utah this season.

Utah shot 37 percent from the field compared to BYU’s 36.7 percent. From three-point range, Utah made seven of 27 attempts (25.9 percent), while BYU hit eleven of thirty (36.7 percent). At the free throw line, Utah converted five of ten shots (50 percent), while BYU made fifteen of nineteen (78.9 percent). Rebounding was nearly even, with BYU grabbing 35 boards to Utah’s 34.
